LINDENWOLD, N.J. (WTXF/AP) - Rescue crews swarmed the scene of a small plane crash in South Jersey and spent 20 minutes getting two victims out of it. Those victims were conscious but not able to communicate.
The borough's police and fire chiefs did not identify the 66-year-old pilot or his 72-year-old passenger. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, but details have not been disclosed.
One was flown to the hospital the other taken by ambulance.
SKYFOX was over the scene on E. Linden Avenue in Lindenwold just after 1pm.
The crash happened in a wooded area behind a house. Authorities learned about it from a 911 call. It did not hit any homes, cars or people on the ground. It did hit a few trees before ending up on the ground in two pieces: tail and body.
The cockpit was upside down and the fuselage separated.
The Federal Aviation Administration, on the scene, says the plane was a ERCOUPE 415-C aircraft that had taken off from the Flying W Airport in Medford. It's still not known where the plane was supposed to land.
Earlier, the FAA put out this preliminary statement: "A small general aviation aircraft crashed near 506 East Linden Avenue, Lindenwold, NJ today at approximately 1:15pm. Contact local authorities for information on passengers. The FAA will investigate. This statement will be updated when more information becomes available."
The National Transportation Safety Board is en route.
