3-alarm fire breaks out on Atlantic City boardwalk

No injuries were reported after a fire broke out on Atlantic City's boardwalk Thursday night. It's still unclear at this time what was on fire and if the flames spread to surrounding structures.

A man was found dead when a fire near a homeless encampment underneath the Atlantic City boardwalk touched off a three-alarm blaze Thursday night.

Investigators believe 67-year-old Bruce Eder was sleeping by a campfire underneath the boardwalk near Tennessee Avenue when it raged out of control.

The rising flames damaged the boardwalk itself and an arcade above, according to officials.

Investigators concluded that the fire was started by an open flame catching nearby combustible material ablaze.

They do not believe the fire was criminally set.
