Dump truck, excavator catch fire during apparent gas leak in Evesham Township neighborhood

A dump truck and excavator appeared to have been engulfed in flames after an apparent gas leak and fire in a residential Evesham Township neighborhood.

Two construction vehicles caught fire in a residential Evesham Township neighborhood Monday morning after officials say a construction crew inadvertently ruptured a gas line. 

What we know:

Two construction vehicles caught fire in a residential Evesham Township neighborhood Monday morning after officials say a construction crew inadvertently ruptured a gas line. 

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Irongate Road and Nottingham Road after receiving reports of an accidental gas line strike by the crew working in the area.

Officers arrived and confirmed that the damage had caused a significant leak and a fire had ignited due to the leaking gas. 

The fire department responded to the scene and began battling the fire, which had eventually engulfed both an excavator and dump truck parked next to the dig site. 

Out of an abundance of caution, emergency crews evacuated a number of nearby homes. Firefighters were eventually able to extinguish the flames, before the fire flared back up.

No injuries or structural damage were reported as a result of the fire. 

What's next:

Utility crews responded to the scene to secure the gas line and conduct the repairs needed to the line.
