UPPER POTTSGROVE TWP., Pa. - A late-night response to a suspected break-in turned deadly early Sunday morning when officials say Upper Pottsgrove Township police fatally shot a man outside a residence.
What we know:
The incident began around 12:29 a.m. Sunday, when officers were dispatched to a home on Snyder Road after receiving a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in.
Upon arrival, police located a man in the rear of the property. Officials say an "encounter ensued" between the responding officers and the subject. During the confrontation, police discharged their weapons, fatally striking the man.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased man, the specific circumstances that led to the gunfire, or the identities of the officers involved.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced Sunday that county detectives have launched a full investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
