'Great Value' cottage cheese sold at Walmart recalled in 24 states over possible health risk

A voluntary recall was issued for a cottage cheese product sold at Walmart stores because of a potential health risk. 

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. initiated the recall after discovering a problem during what it called a "pasteurizer troubleshooting exercise."

The Food and Drug Administration noted in a Feb. 24 recall notice that while no illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported to date, consuming products that are not fully pasteurized can pose a serious health risk.

The recall involves cottage cheese products sold under the Great Value label and were sold in white plastic tubs with white lids. The "Best By’ dates are located on the side of the lids, according to the Food and Drug Administration. 

The cottage cheese products are listed below:

  • Great Value Fat Free Small Curd Cottage Cheese, 0% Milkfat 24-ounce container
  • Great Value Lowfat Small Curd Cottage Cheese, 2% Milkfat 24-ounce container
  • Great Value Small Curd Cottage Cheese, 4% milkfat minimum 16-ounce container, 24-ounce container and 3-pound container
