Juveniles arrested for throwing debris, damaging 17 vehicles on Chester County highway

The Brief

    • Two juveniles, ages 11 and 14, were arrested for intentionally throwing heavy debris, including large rocks and logs, onto the US-30 Bypass in Valley Township.
    • The debris struck and damaged at least 17 vehicles, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to two vehicle occupants. 
    • Both juveniles face several charges, including Aggravated Assault.

VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police have arrested two juveniles in connection with a dangerous string of incidents involving large rocks, logs, and sticks being hurled at moving vehicles in Chester County.

What we know:

The incidents occurred during the evening hours of August 19 and  21 on the US-30 Bypass, just east of Airport Road in Valley Township. 

According to investigators, a 14-year-old male and an 11-year-old male intentionally threw heavy debris from the roadside directly onto the busy highway.

At least 17 vehicles sustained damage from the attacks. Two vehicle occupants also suffered non-life-threatening injuries when their cars were struck by the airborne debris.

Both juveniles face several charges, including Aggravated Assault, Propulsion of Missiles into an Occupied Vehicle, Propulsion of Missiles into or onto a Roadway, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

What you can do:

Troopers believe there may be other motorists whose vehicles were struck. The Pennsylvania State Police ask anyone who was traveling in the area of this incident and sustained damage to contact Trooper Cole Zapf at the PSP Embreeville Station.
