Multi-vehicle crash in Mount Laurel shuts NJ Turnpike lanes

An investigation is underway after a multi-vehicle crash occurred on the NJ Turnpike in Mount Laurel Friday.

A major crash on the New Jersey Turnpike closed southbound lanes near Exit 4, causing significant traffic disruptions late Friday afternoon.

Crash details on the New Jersey Turnpike 

What we know:

New Jersey State Troopers responded to the crash at 3:59 p.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike south at milepost 35.5 in Mount Laurel Township, Burlington County. 

A Peterbilt tractor-trailer changed lanes onto the left shoulder to avoid a collision with traffic, causing the driver to lose control and strike a Toyota SUV. 

Police say the Peterbilt continued forward, jack-knifed, and struck nine more vehicles, including a Lexus SUV, a GMC pick-up truck, and several passenger vehicles. 

Six people sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital. 

Emergency services, including police and fire crews, are managing the situation and working to clear the roadway.
