Man charged in knifepoint robbery at SEPTA station

Police have charged the man they say is responsible for robbing a 70-year-old man at knifepoint in Juniata Park.

The incident took place at the Erie-Torresdale station early Tuesday.

George Matias, 25, has been charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and related charges.

The victim, Wayne Griffin, says he was gathering the free Metro Newspapers to hand out when he was attacked.

"As soon as he got on he pushed our rider against the wall--held a large knife in his hand and demanded money," SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel said.

SEPTA police say the suspect rifled through his victim's pockets and took his wallet with $5 inside.
