Authorities say the man wanted for fatally shooting a mother as she slept next to her 5-day-old baby in Germantown has surrendered to police.

Tyrese Lynch, 32, has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, 24-year-old Isis Williams, on the 6300 block of North Woodstock Street on Friday.

Police say Williams was shot multiple times in the second-floor bedroom of a home, just feet away from where her newborn child was sleeping in a crib. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The newborn baby girl was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children to receive care.

On a GoFundMe set up on behalf of Williams' family, a relative says the relationship between Williams and Lynch was abusive.

"She was crying out for help no one heard her. We tried telling her many times to leave him but love gets the best of you, I guess," said cousin Amirah Yarbough.

Investigators say there appeared to have been a struggle leading up to Williams' murder. A motive in the alleged murder has not been disclosed.

Lynch was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, endangering welfare and related offenses.
