Marijuana becomes legal in Michigan on Dec. 6

You voted for it -- and now in just a matter of days marijuana will be legal in Michigan.

The Michigan Board of Canvassers certified the results of the November election Monday, including Proposal 1 to legalize recreational marijuana. Starting on Dec. 6, adults 21 years old and older will be allowed to possess up to 2.5 ounces of pot and grow up to 12 plants in their home.

The state is also working to finalize regulations, but marijuana could be commercially available for sale late next year.

"We are giving LARA one year in which to pass rules for the commercial licenses. So in other words, any adult will be able to transfer up to 2.5 ounces adult to adult without pay. But if you want to sell it, you have to get a state license," said Thomas Lavinge with Cannabis Counsel.

Although marijuana will be legal, you still cannot smoke in public and you could lose your job for lighting up. The same policies that say you can't show up for work drunk or under the influence of drugs will apply to weed as well.
