11-year-old girl injured in fireworks explosion
FOX 29's Lauren Johnson reports from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after a 11-year-old girl was injured in a fireworks explosion in North Philadelphia.
NORTH PHILADELPHIA - Police say an 11-year-old girl was injured after she was playing with fireworks and one went off inside a North Philadelphia home.
It happened on the 700 block of North Marvine Street around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A good Samaritan — a retired nurse who lives in a nearby senior living facility — ran inside the home to help the young girl and observed her fingers blown off. The woman reportedly grabbed a cloth and wrapped her hand before someone drove the victim to the hospital.
The girl is currently listed in stable condition at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
The good Samaritan said she asked permission to go upstairs, where she saw smoke and opened the windows. She said she did not see any explosive devices and that the teenagers inside at the time did not explain what happened. All were reportedly in a panic and thanked her for her help.
Police confirmed there was damage to the second floor room and drywall where the girl was allegedly playing with the fireworks.
