U.S. Rep. Max Miller has requested a House Ethics Committee investigation into abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, saying he wants to clear his name.
Miller, who is seeking reelection in northeast Ohio this November, was facing a Wednesday deadline for Republicans to replace him on the ballot. He continues to posit transparency as the best path forward while Democrats are eyeing the seat as one of a handful needed to regain control of the House of Representatives. If Miller does indeed drop out, Republicans would need to name a new candidate by August 10.
What they're saying:
Miller posted to social media saying he is willing to provide the committee with any necessary documentation they may need for a detailed examination.
The other side:
Earlier this week, Miller’s former father-in-law and U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno spoke out publicly in a lengthy social media post about the drama regarding his daughter and her ex-husband, saying Miller should serve in Congress.

US Rep. Max Miller’s long-running divorce feud
The backstory:
Miller married Emily Moreno in 2022, a year prior to their daughter being born. In August 2024 he filed for a divorce, which was finalized last June.
The two have been embroiled in a custody dispute since the split that had Miller filing for a restraining order against his ex-wife who made claims of abuse against herself and their daughter. Moreno claims Miller threw boiling water at her.
Dig deeper:
The restraining order was not the first legal action Miller filed in his defense against an ex. Miller’s ex-girlfriend and former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham also lodged allegations against Miller in a book and Washington Post op-ed. While not initially named, Miller was later identified and accused of physically abusing her while the two were dating.
