Update on deadly shooting at waterfront bar in NC
Today police in Southport, North Carolina announced that Nigel Edge is the suspected shooter accused of killing 3 people at a restaurant on Saturday night.
A suspect has been charged after reportedly opening fire from a boat into a waterfront restaurant in North Carolina, killing three people and wounding five others Saturday night.
The shooting erupted about 9:30 p.m. Saturday near a popular stretch of bars and restaurants on Southport’s waterfront, a historic port town about 30 miles south of Wilmington.

What we know:
Nigel Max Edge, 40, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting at the American Fish Company restaurant, the city’s public information officer, ChyAnn Ketchum, confirmed.

Roughly half an hour after the shooting, a U.S. Coast Guard crew spotted a person matching the suspect’s description pulling a boat from the water at a public ramp on Oak Island. The person was detained and turned over to Southport police for questioning, officials said.
The weapon used was an assault rifle, although police didn't specify what kind.
Police said the suspect is known to local authorities and "frequently hung out on our pier." Edge had also filed lawsuits against the town and police department over the last few years.
What they're saying:
The district attorney said Edge had had "minor contacts" with police in the past "but nothing significant in his past which would give us any indication that he was capable of such horror."
"We understand this suspect identifies as a combat veteran. He self-identifies. Injured in the line of duty is what he’s saying, he suffers from PTSD," Police Chief Todd Coring said.

What we don't know:
Officials didn't release a specific motive, but they said the shooting was "highly premeditated" and "targeted."
Who are the victims?
The victims who were killed have not been identified.
Among the five people hospitalized with injuries, at least one "is now clinging for their life." Some of the victims were vacationers from out of town.
