St. Patrick's Day Parade: Street closures, parking restrictions

May the luck of the Irish be with all as Philadelphia announces road closures ahead of Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The annual fete honoring Ireland's revered patron saint is to be held Sunday, March 10, beginning at 11 a.m. The route is to start at 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard, travel through the Independence Mall area and end at Penn's Landing. The main grandstand and performance area is set for 5th and Market Streets. The parade is scheduled to end at 3 p.m. The St. Patrick's Day Parade is a rain or shine event.

Parade participants are asked to enter at 30th Street and Schuylkill Avenue and set up from 20th to 16th Streets along John F. Kennedy Boulevard at 9 a.m.

Market Street between 5th and 6th Street will be closed beginning at 5:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

These streets will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. and ending approximately 3:30 p.m.:
-- John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 20th and Arch Street
-- 20th Street between Market and Arch Streets
-- 19th Street between Market and Arch Streets
-- 18th Street between Market and Arch Streets
-- 17th Street between Market and Arch Streets
-- 16th Street between Market and Arch Streets
-- 15th Street between Market and Arch Streets

These streets will be closed approximately 10 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.:
-- John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 15th Street and Juniper Street
-- Juniper Street between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Market Street
-- Market Street between Juniper Street and Front Street
-- All cross streets on Market from 13th Street to Front Street and between Chestnut and Arch Streets
-- Front Street between Market Street and Chestnut Street

The 1400 through 2000 blocks of John F. Kennedy Boulevard will be designated as "Temporary No Parking" zones from 6 a.m. through 3 p.m.

These streets will be designated "Temporary No Parking" zones from 5 a.m. through 3 p.m.:

-- 5th Street between Chestnut and Market Streets
-- 6th Street between Chestnut and Race Streets
-- Race Street between 5th and 6th Streets
-- Market Street from Juniper to Front Streets
-- Front Street between Market and Chestnut Streets

Vehicles parked in "Temporary No Parking" zones will be relocated.

All of the above street and parking information is for Sunday, March 10, 2019.

Public transportation to and from the parade is strongly encouraged. More information concerning schedules can be found at septa.org or patco.

Attendees using public transportation are strongly encouraged to not bring bags of any sort. All bags are subject to search.

Cups and liquids of any kind will not be permitted on Regional Rail.

For the public's safety, these items are not allowed on the parade route:
-- Weapons of any kind
-- Fireworks or explosives
-- Illegal or illicit substances
-- Alcohol beverages
-- Skateboards, motorized vehicles, scooters
-- Laser pointers
-- Unmanned Aircraft Systems or drones
