2 arrested in shooting that left young father dead

Police say two men are under arrest in connection with a shooting that left a young father dead in July.

According to police, the victim was found sitting in the driver's seat of a car -- shot in his head and shoulder. He had inadvertently driven through an area where two separate groups of men were shooting at each other, investigators say.

Police say his 3-year-old daughter was in the backseat and was not harmed.

They were called to the 5100 block of Germantown Avenue on July 28 around 6 p.m.

They found the victim -- later identified as Alsharay Ford, 25 -- sitting in the driver's seat of a 2009 White Chevy Malibu suffering from the gunshot wounds.

Police took him to the hospital themselves, where he was listed in extremely critical condition, but he died the next day.

Later, police learned two people had been shooting back and forth across the area and Ford was hit in his left temple and right shoulder by the crossfire. Then, he actually continued driving until he crashed about two blocks away in the 4900 block of N. Germantown Avenue.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, police identified 18-year-old Jameil Byrd as one of the males wanted in connection with the murder of Ford. Police say on Thursday, August 18, Byrd was located on the 4800 block of Germantown Avenue and taken into custody without incident; he is charged with murder and related offenses. Police say 19-year-old Saykou Monte was arrested today in connection with the shooting death.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ford and his family.
