Police arrested a 31-year-old man after he allegedly threatened two students with a gun near Claymont Elementary School on Wednesday morning, according to the Delaware State Police.
What we know:
Police say Anthony Dejesus drove a red Nissan sedan to Claymont Elementary School around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. While waiting in the car, Dejesus reportedly got into a verbal exchange with two students and showed what the students believed was a handgun, threatening to shoot them.
The students ran away and told school staff, who called 9-1-1 and notified the school’s constable. Staff members approached Dejesus, but he left before police arrived, according to investigators.
Detectives later identified Dejesus as the driver. Police say he is not allowed to have firearms due to a previous domestic violence-related misdemeanor conviction.
Dejesus turned himself in at Troop 2 on several charges, including felony counts of possession of a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a domestic felony.
What we don't know:
Police have not said whether the firearm was recovered or if Dejesus had any connection to the students or the school beyond this incident.
