PHILADELPHIA - Investigators say the Museum of American Jewish History in Center City Philadelphia was vandalized with graffiti overnight.
What we know:
Police were called to the Museum of American Jewish History on the 100 block of South Independence Mall East just before 5 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say officers discovered red spray-painted graffiti on the side of the building, including on part of the large flag of Israel.
Red spray paint also covered part of the sidewalk and steps outside the building.
What they're saying:
A museum spokesperson confirmed the vandalism that occurred Monday morning in a statement to FOX 29:
"We have notified the requisite authorities and are working to clean the area. We had been planning to refresh the façade signage with "Bring Them Home Now" hostage messaging as we approach the incomprehensible two-year anniversary of their inhumane captivity. In light of the timing of the vandalism, we are working to install that signage sooner rather than replacing the flag for only a short time. As such, there may be a gap in signage for a few days. We are simultaneously designing a new façade layout ahead of 2026 which will be dedicated to promoting three exciting brand new exhibitions."
What we don't know:
Police did not share what the message and/or symbols the graffiti included.
No arrests have been made so far.
What you can do:
Police have asked anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
