More than 100 community members attend bike lane meeting

More than one hundred community members gathered to share their opinions on improved bike lanes coming to Center City.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney wants to make biking safer around the city, by adding barriers to some bike lanes.

Most lanes lack a physical barrier between the cyclists and the cars.

The city's Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator got to hear from the community at Tuesday night's meeting. Bikers generally supported protected lanes.

But homeowners and business owners expressed worry that barriers could make parking and loading impossible in some neighborhoods.

So far, locations have not yet been determined. But the city hopes to add 30 miles of protected bike lanes within five years.
