Police identify man killed in Upper Pottsgrove officer-involved shooting

UPPER POTTSGROVE TWP., PA. - Family members have identified the 22-year-old man shot and killed by an Upper Pottsgrove Township police officer early Sunday morning as Glenwood "Bubba" Pysher.

The backstory:

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office reported that police responded to a home on Snyder Road at 12:29 a.m. Sunday following a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in. 

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man at the rear of the property. During the confrontation, police discharged their weapons, fatally striking him, according to authorities. 

What they're saying:

Pysher’s mother said her son was unarmed and shot twice. According to his mother, Pysher had been bar-hopping with friends earlier in the night and mistakenly walked to the Snyder Road house, believing it was his friend's home, and tried to get inside.

Pysher was scheduled to return to college today to start classes and play baseball at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, his mother added.

"To see someone that has so much potential because he was so excited about going back to school, lose their life, it hurts," a family friend identified as Kia told FOX 29. "He was an amazing soul, young man, never got in any trouble, well-respected."

Kia noted that the community is left with unanswered questions following the encounter.

"What happened? Could it have been de-escalated? We don’t know, but we want to figure that out," she said.

What we don't know:

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the incident or identified the officer involved.

The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is actively investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is standard protocol.
