Sketch released of PA road rage suspect

PHILADELPHIA, PA (WTXF) - A road rage argument led to gunfire Thursday afternoon along the Blue Route in Montgomery County. Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a driver who fired one shot at a blue Mitsubishi lancer around mile post 16 in the northbound lanes along i-476.

"We're dealing with someone who needs to be taken off the streets" says Cpl. William Slayton, a spokesman for the Pa State Police.

Police spent the afternoon processing the Mitsubishi with a visible single gunshot to the passenger door. Investigators have released a composite sketch of the man who they believe pulled the trigger. He was driving an early 2000 model dark blue Lincoln Towncar when police say he got upset with the driver in the Mitsubishi.

"The actor drove into the middle lane and drew a silver semiautomatic pistol and fired one round at the victim's vehicle and pierced the victim's passenger side door" says Slayton.

The single shot missed the victim but went through the door and lodged in the cars center console. Witnesses tell FOX 29 they saw the confrontation unfold along the highway.

The suspect in the town car with a Pennsylvania license plate is described at a light skinned black or Hispanic male in his 40's or 50's wearing a dark flat brimmed baseball cap.
The town car had a distinct Lincoln logo with a red background on the front. The car was last seen driving north on the blue route near Plymouth Meeting.

Police say slow speed may have set off the driver before he fired the shot. Slayton says "we just think it was a road rage incident maybe the victim wasn't going fast enough. Who knows in any case that's no reason to shoot at a fellow motorist".

The victim was not injured. If you have any information please call the PA State Police Criminal Investigations unit at 215-452-5216.
