Walmart employee shot after gunfire erupts during argument in Delco store, suspect sought: police

GLENOLDEN, Pa. - Police say a Walmart employee was shot in the leg after an argument between two male customers at the self-checkout line Friday, July 31, and the shooter left the scene. Officers are reviewing surveillance video and purchase records as they work to identify and locate the suspect.

What we know:

According to Darby Police, the shooting happened around 7:25 p.m. Investigators say an argument broke out between two male customers near the self-checkout area when a man wearing an orange hoodie and gray sweatpants pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots inside the store.

Police say the shooter fired between five and 10 rounds.

A Walmart employee, who police say was a bystander, was struck in the calf and taken to Penn Presbyterian hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the bullets also struck and shattered a glass window near the front entrance of the store.

Following the shooting, Walmart employees rushed out of the building to safety, with some consoling each other after the frightening incident.

The shooter fled the scene and remains at large.

What's next:

Darby Township Police Chief Mike Sousa tells FOX 29 investigators are working to identify the suspect. Police are reviewing surveillance video from inside and outside the Walmart and are also looking at the suspect’s purchase history as part of the investigation.

Police say the Walmart, ShopRite, and Forman Mills stores in the shopping center have been cleared and there is no current threat to the public.

Police are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
