Many seabirds in this region died recently, with more than 90% of the affected birds being grey-backed shearwaters, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Mexico.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Depression Three formed over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean on Monday morning.

It was centered in the Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez, about 81 miles east of the resort of Cabo San Lucas.

Forecasters have been closely monitoring a disturbance, known as a tropical wave, which entered the ocean from Africa last week and has been given a high chance of tropical development.

During heat waves, the country usually suffers severe water shortages, with tens of millions of its 1.4 billion people lacking running water.
