PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Archbishop Nelson Perez is recovering after fainting while celebrating mass on Thursday.

Archbishop Perez was celebrating Chrism Mass at Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul when he began feeling lightheaded.

"I felt very lightheaded during the Chrism Mass today and left the altar," Perez wrote.

The mass was being livestreamed on the church's website, and captured Perez fainting on the altar.

"My vital signs are normal, and I feel just fine," Perez said in a statement.
