Artist who painted nude Trump portrait assaulted in Los Angeles

Artist Illma Gore caused controversy when she painted a nude portrait of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and later put it on display in a London gallery.

Gore's portrait was reportedly censored in the US and led to death threats against the artist.

On her return to Los Angeles, Gore was allegedly assaulted by "a man who got out of his car and yelled, "Trump 2016!," she said on Instagram,

Gore accompanied a lengthy Instagram post with a photo of her face, complete with bruising around her eye.

She said, "I am sad that this is the state of our America right now. I am sad that Trump, and many of his supporters, don't find words enough to express their opinions - they need walls, waterboarding and punches."

Gore signed off her post with the hashtag #MakeAmericaDecentAgain.
