EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that followed a police encounter early Friday morning in the Marlton section of Evesham Township, Burlington County.
Driver dies after fleeing attempted traffic stop
What we know:
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, the incident occurred at 4:38 a.m. on March 20, 2026, when an Evesham Township police officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop involving a civilian driver.
During the encounter, the civilian vehicle continued driving and subsequently collided with a second, uninvolved vehicle near the intersection of Route 73 and Lincoln Drive. Officials confirmed that the marked police vehicle was not involved in the crash.
The driver of the initial civilian vehicle, an adult male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The Attorney General’s Office is leading the investigation, as required under New Jersey law when a death occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity.
