Made in America festival ends, cleanup on the parkway begins
PHILADELPHIA (AP/WTXF) - The City of Philadelphia is in cleanup mode following Made in America festival, which marked its seventh iteration of the two-day affair this weekend.
Among the artists who performed on the Ben Franklin Parkway were Niki Minaj, Meek Mill and Post Malone.
The festival, backed by rap mogul Jay-Z, will remain in the heart of Philadelphia after Mayor Jim Kenney reversed his decision to move the event.
"We think it's a very important event for the city," Kenney told reporters in July. "We think it's important for our profile, for our tourism and we want to make it work."
The city initially announced the festival would need to move to a new location starting in 2019, but changed course after backlash from the city and Jay-Z himself.
Made in America draws up to 50,000 people annually to the parkway, a heavily visited expanse of museums, monuments, fountains and the famed "Rocky" steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
