Armed man identified in deadly officer-involved shooting in Bucks County

Authorities say a knife-wielding man was shot to death by police during an emergency call Sunday night at a home in Bucks County.

Authorities say a knife-wielding man was shot to death by police during an emergency call Sunday night at a home in Bucks County. 

Officers from the Northampton Police Department were called to a home on the 400 block of Elm Avenue around 7:30 for reports of a man armed with a knife. 

Investigators said the man, later identified as 40-year-old Mark Chambers, approached officers with the knife and had threatened to take his own life. 

MORE HEADLINES:

During the confrontation, authorities say Chambers was hit by police gunfire and taken to St. Mary Medical Center where he died just after 8 p.m. 

An officer was treated for injuries sustained during the deadly altercation and is expected to recover, officials said Monday.

Chambers, according to law enforcement sources, was known to police before the deadly altercation. 

The Bucks County District Attorney's Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
