Tampons in the men's restrooms at one university

A student-led initiative at Brown University will offer up complimentary tampons and pads in women's, men's and gender-inclusive bathrooms.

Viet Nguyen told Newsweek, "There's been a lot of conversation about why pads and tampons are a necessity, not a luxury, but not a lot of action. We wanted to take it into our own hands."

Nguyen plans to have these products in 30 - 40 bathrooms on the campus for this upcoming school year. This is not an official campus policy though; the initiative was funded by the student-run undergraduate finance board.

Public school students in New York City will also have access to menstrual products, which will be available to all students from 6th grade through 12th grade. In June, the city passed a law that provides these products in all public facilities, although whether these feminine hygiene products appear in men's bathrooms is yet to be reported.
