2 charged in death of 15-month-old in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- Police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old child as a homicide.

The Wilmington Police Department says officers have arrested two city residents in the death of the toddler, whose name has not been released.

A Saturday statement from police say the child's mother left the toddler in the care of 37-year-old Lavar Harris and 22-year-old Tameke Wright.

The state medical examiner's office has determined the young child's death was caused by blunt force trauma.

Harris and Wright were taken into custody roughly two hours after warrants for murder by abuse or neglect were signed.

Police say the pair are being held on $100,000 bail. It wasn't immediately clear if they had lawyers.
