2 killed, 2 injured in Garden State Parkway crash

Authorities in Atlantic County are investigating an overnight crash on the Garden State Parkway that left two people dead and injured two others, early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes near mile marker 48 in Port Republic, just before 1:00 a.m.

Police say the driver of a black Nissan sedan lost control of the vehicle, striking a guard rail and overturning down an embankment and into a marsh.

Both the driver, 27-year-old Darryl Thomas, and passenger, 22-year-old Zachary Pearce, were ejected from the vehicle, while two other passengers remained in the vehicle.

Rescue crews arrived on scene and located both the driver and passenger around 4:40 a.m., when both were pronounced dead.

The other two passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
