Dog who lived entire life on the streets rescued, on the road to recovery
(WTXF) - A dog who spent his entire life as a stray and therefore had never learned to trust a human or received any sort of love or care has made a complete turnaround.
According to the Huffington Post, it was all made possible when Benji the dog met Eldad Hagar, the co-founder of animal rescue organization Hope for Paws.
Hagar heard about what Benji was going through and searched for him on the streets of Los Angeles.
Hoping he could rescue Benji and introduce him to a new life, Hagar soon realized that he had a lot of work to do as the dog was extremely fearful and suspicious of humans.
"It was hard for him to trust," said Hagar.
In a video showing Benji's journey, it took time before Benji could be rescued. He was then taken to the vet where they cleaned, deloused, and shaved him.
According to Hagar, Benji had one of the worst mattings he had ever seen.
Benji was unresponsive to affection and had low energy days after the rescue, but after a few hours of loving care, he began to open up.
Benji even began to make new friends.
Hagar told the Huffington Post that Benji's story was "one of the saddest" he'd been faced with, but he is now on the road to recovery.
The dog currently lives with a foster family, but is looking for a forever family.
Information on how to adopt Benji can be found here.
