Lehigh Valley man stopped for having loaded handgun at Philadelphia International Airport

An Allentown man was ticketed for having a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag at Philadelphia International Airport Monday.

Officials with TSA detected the 9 mm handgun in the bag of the Lehigh Valley man while at a checkpoint at the airport. The gun contained 10 bullets.

TSA contacted the Philadelphia police. Police questioned the man and issued a citation.

Officials with TSA confirm this is the fifth time a gun has been detected at a checkpoint this year.

TSA states people with guns detected at checkpoints bring lines to a halt, delaying other passengers from getting to their gates.

People who bring firearms to checkpoints are subject to possible criminal charges. Travelers with concealed carry permits are not allowed to bring guns past checkpoints. TSA says a typical first offense for bringing a handgun to a checkpoint is $3,900.

TSA details specific rules and regulations for all passengers regarding firearms on their website, which can be accessed here.
