Man stages robbery, steals $68,000 in cash from Bensalem bank ATM

A man was arrested in Bensalem Friday morning after stealing $68,000 from a TruMark Financial ATM.

According to Bensalem Police, they received an alarm activation from the exterior ATM at the bank, located at 3446 Old Lincoln Highway.

Upon arrival, an officer saw 50-year-old Dennis McLernan walking along Old Lincoln Highway.

McLernan was dressed in black and carrying a duffel bag.

When the officer attempted to stop McLernan, he ran and a foot chase began until the officer was able to subdue him.

The officer then recovered the duffle bag, which contained the $68,000 cash. It was then confirmed that the money was stolen from the ATM.

McLernan is employed by a security company that handles ATM services and money delivery. McLernan had a key to the ATM and staged damage to appear as though it was forced open, according to police.

He has been charged with burglary, theft, and related offenses.
