Meeting held to discuss coyote sightings in Haverford Township
HAVERFORD Twp., Pa. (FOX 29) - A meeting was held Wednesday night to discuss recent coyote sightings in Haverford Township.
Katie Link is alarmed over the coyote sightings in Haverford Township, including one not too far from where she lives. A coyote was recently hit by a car in front of the middle school on Darby Road.
"I wouldn't expect them to be in a neighborhood," she said.
The township invited a Pennslyvania state game warden to talk about coyotes Wednesday night.
"It's not unusual to see a coyote. I'm not alarmed that they're around. In my 22 year career, I've investigated zero coyotes attacking people," Game Warden Jerry Czech said.
Czech says if one is spotted in your neighborhood you should keep an eye on small pets and keep your dog on a leash.
"If they are hungry, they are opportunistic. They're gonna take a small cat. They'll take a small dog. They'll take a chicken," he explained.
The warden says male coyotes usually weigh 45 to 50 pounds and the females weigh 35 to 40. He says social media has greatly exaggerated their size, including several sightings in Radnor in March.
