Newborn baby found dead inside women's restroom at Amazon fulfillment center in Phoenix

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Phoenix police say an investigation is underway after a newborn baby girl was found dead inside the women's restroom of an Amazon fulfillment center.

"I won't quote hours, but it had been some time," Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

Sgt. Lewis could not say how much time passed before the dead baby was found inside a women's restroom at the building on Lower Buckeye Road and 55th Avenue.

He did elude to the fact that the mother may have worked there.

"In working with the evidence that we had, circumstances surrounding it and then of course the business, we were able to locate mom," he said.

Police were called out after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Phoenix fire arrived on the scene and confirmed the baby was dead.

Questions remain as to whether the dead newborn was born in the bathroom or if the body was placed there.

"We're going to be working with the office of the Maricopa County medical examiner," Sgt. Lewis said. "Hopefully they will have those answers."

Investigators at the Phoenix Police Department are asking anyone who may have seen or heard or know anything to call them.
