Officials capture man wanted in shoplifting that led to police-involved shooting

Authorities say a man accused in a shoplifting incident that turned into a deadly police-involved shooting outside a Marshalls in Deptford Township has been caught.

Raoul A. Gadson was charged with robbery and assault after he was taken into custody Wednesday in Philadelphia by officers of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office Fugitive Investigations Unit, according to authorities.

Gadsen will be detained in Philadelphia until extradition proceedings are completed. Once he is returned to New Jersey, he will be scheduled for a first appearance in Superior Court, Woodbury on the second-degree assault and robbery charges.

Officials say on Saturday Gadson and two other women, including 36-year-old LaShanda Anderson left the Marshalls store with suitcases full of stolen goods when they were confronted by cops. Gunfire would erupt shocking customers inside.

Detectives say Gadson ran off while Anderson hopped into an SUV and raced towards police--striking one officer with the driver side door--then aiming for another officer who opened fire killing Anderson.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office at 856-466-6192 or 856-384-5500. Anyone with knowledge of Gadson is asked to call GCPO at 856-498-6238.
