Officials: Remains found in wooded area of NJ are human

HOWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say skeletal remains found in a wooded area of central New Jersey this week are human.

Howell Township police say surveyors working near a storm-damaged bridge found the remains Tuesday. The area has been closed off since flood waters washed out the road last month.

Authorities say it's not yet known how long the remains may have been at the site, how they got there or if they were male or female.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, and authorities said no further information would be disclosed until those results were received.
