One man dead, two injured during East Mount Airy shooting

One person was killed and two others were injured during a shooting in East Mount Airy overnight Monday.

The incident occurred on the 8300 block of Gilbert Street just after midnight.

According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, police were called to the scene at that time for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, they found a 51-year-old male shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another 51-year-old male was shot in the torso, leg, and had a graze wound to the head. He is in critical condition at Einstein Medical Center, however, he is expected to survive.

Also, a 58-year-old was shot in the leg. He is in stable condition at Einstein.

According to Small, four men were hanging out in a renovated garage watching the Eagles game. Afterwards, things turned violent.

A 51-year-old male pulled out a gun and opened fire at point blank range. At least five shots were fired.

The shooter took off, but was found about a mile away.

The victim in stable condition helped police identify the shooter.

The shooter is currently being interviewed by detectives. Also, police are interviewing a 15-year-old boy who was inside the house at the time of the shooting. According to officials, there is no entry into the house from the garage so he was nowhere near the shooting.

Police say the teen is the nephew of the man who was shot dead. However, it is unclear if he heard anything leading up to the shooting.
