Family of man killed by Delaware police during suspected drug deal demand answers: 'This is not over'

Andrew Edelmann, 22, was shot and killed by police during what investigators said was a known drug deal near a 7-Eleven in Wilmington. A woman was also shot and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The family of Edelmann described him as a "family man" who would "give you the shirt off his back."

A man is dead and a woman is hurt after being shot by police outside a Wilmington 7-Eleven, authorities say.

Investigators from the New Castle County Division of Police say officers were conducting a drug investigation in the area of Maryland and West Champlain Avenues around 7:40 p.m. on Monday.

Police say investigators had information that a suspect, 22-year-old Andrew Edelmann, was going to deliver illegal drugs in the area around that time.

According to authorities, officers knew what Edelmann would be driving and the business he was set to deliver drugs to.

Officials say they located Edelmann inside his Hyundai Sante Fe in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on Maryland Avenue and attempted to stop him.

Police say he ignored commands from officers and accelerated his car forward in the direction of officers.

An officer close to the vehicle fired shots, striking Edelmann and a 21-year-old woman also in the vehicle, per police.

Both were transported to Christiania Hospital, where Edelmann later died and the woman is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Authorities say officers found illegal drugs and a loaded assault-style rifle on the driver's side floorboard of the car.

No officers were hurt during the incident. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

FOX 29 obtained surveillance video showing the moments leading up to the shooting and shortly after.
