Police: 10-year-old girl dies after apparent road-rage shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX (FOX 10/AP) - Police say a 10-year-old girl has died after she and her father were both shot outside their home during a possible road-rage shooting in Phoenix on April 3.

According to a statement released by Sgt. Vince Lewis, a family of four was driving near 37th Avenue and Portland Street when they noticed a white Ford F-150 with dark-colored trim was following them.

As they turned onto Moreland Street where they lived, the truck continued following them. When they turned into their driveway, the truck stopped and the driver fired several gunshots at them.

"They were traveling westbound on Moreland and turned into their residence and that's when the driver or someone from the pickup truck opened fire to the car," said Sgt. Lewis. "The father and daughter were struck by gunfire."

A 30-year-old man driving the vehicle and his daughter, identified by police as Summerbell Brown, were both shot.

The mother and a second daughter who were also in the vehicle weren't injured.

Neighbors who did not want to go on camera say several shots were heard.

"Just knowing that all the family is there and for them to do that, it's just sad," said one person.

Police say the suspect, identified as a 30-to-40-year-old man, remains on the loose.
