Police Charge Suspect, 23, in Sexual Assault and Robbery of Temple Student

Philadelphia Police announced Thursday that they have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the sexual assault and robbery of a female Temple University student.

Shakree Bennett, 23, was extradited from Essex County, New Jersey back to Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Police have charged Bennett rape, aggravated assault, sexual assault, robbery, simple assault, violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, theft, receiving stolen property, and other related charges.

Police say the 20-year-old female was walking alone after 11:00 p.m. on September 28 th , when she was jumped from behind. Police say she was struck in the arm with a small silver handgun, pushed against a wall and sexually assaulted. The attacker ran off northbound on Carlisle.

Two weeks ago, police released photos of the man that were captured by SEPTA surveillance cameras as the suspect rode on a subway.
