Philadelphia police investigate after a 3-year-old girl found bruised and unresponsive in bathtub

A 3-year-old girl was found bruised and unresponsive in a dry bathtub in a West Philadelphia apartment and police are investigating as her death is labeled suspicious, authorities said.

Philadelphia police are investigating the suspicious death of a child in the city. 

According to officials, police responded to a residence on the 400 block of N 50th Street in West Philadelphia on Friday around 2:30 a.m. 

Authorities say when officers arrived they found a 3-year-old girl unresponsive in a bathtub with no water. 

Medics transported the child to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m., according to police.

Officials say the child also had bruises on her body. 

Neighbor Mata Crawford stated, "As I’m leaving out my apartment, I seen the fire department go inside her apartment and they brought out the little girl and took her downstairs. She wasn’t breathing, so I was scared."

11 hours after police initially arrived, the crime scene unit arrived to collect evidence.

Police say the investigation is active and ongoing with the department's Special Victims Unit.
