Police looking for man behind 'unprovoked' attack of 70-year-old in Frankford store

Philadelphia police say they need your help identifying a man accused of assaulting a 70-year-old man.

It happened on Wednesday just before 6 p.m. inside DJ Deli located at 4324 Wingohocking Street while Guy Mason says he was buying milk.

"Hit an old man like me? I mean, you ought to be ashamed of yourself," he told FOX 29.

Video surveillance inside the store shows the alleged attacker walks in after Mason was already in the store.

He appears to linger and police say the store clerks ask him if he needs anything and he does not respond. When Mason puts the gallon of milk on the counter and starts to pay for it, police say the man attacks.

"This man just assaults him with several punches to the head and face," Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said. "We have to go back and look and see if there was any interaction and obviously this was just an unprovoked attack."

Mason says he did not even see the man.

He had to go to the hospital and get seven stitches on his forehead. Otherwise, he says he was fortunate to only receive some bumps and bruises.

"I told my wife I'm not going to the store no more by myself," he said. "I hope police catch him, get him off the street. He might injure someone else."
