Special meeting held after alleged dispute involving Atlantic City mayor, councilman
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WTXF) - A special meeting was held by the Atlantic City Democratic Committee to vote on a resolution regarding the status of AC Mayor Frank Gilliam and Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy.
Members of the Atlantic City Democratic Committee are speaking out two weeks after Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam and Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy allegedly threw punches in the Golden Nugget Casino's parking lot. Sources tell FOX 29 the fight started inside of Haven Nightclub and that after the mayor and councilman were asked to leave, things turned physical outside with the club's manager.
"This alleged conduct is disgraceful and extremely disturbing and should not go without reproach,"Committee Municipal Chair Gwendolyn Lewis-Callaway said. "We the Atlantic City Committee are requesting these officials immediately step aside from their elected positions without pay."
Committee Municipal Chair Gwendolyn Lewis-Callaway says they have not reached out to the mayor or councilman personally.
Another attempt to talk to Mayor Gilliam at his home was unsuccessful. No one came to the door. The committee says that if these two local leaders do not voluntarily step aside, they're asking that Governor Murphy step in and suspend both politicians without pay until the case is resolved in court.
