HAINESPORT, N.J. (WTXF) - A 15-year-old is under arrest and charged with carjacking an elderly woman in a supermarket parking lot.
The crime happened in Hainesport Township, Burlington County, on June 11.
Police say the 82-year-old victim's daughter left her mother in her car with the keys while she went into the store. That's when the carjacker opened the driver's side door, assaulted the elderly woman, and forced her out of the car before driving away.
On June 20, Pleasantville police recovered the stolen Toyota Rav 4 in an alley behind several businesses.
Two days later, police posted "a fairly poor surveillance still of the suspect along with a description."
That same day, detectives got several anonymous tips and they say that's what led to the suspect being identified.
Detectives learned he was in Atlantic City and arrested him on Tuesday.
He's charged with carjacking and being held in a juvenile detention center.
