Unborn baby dies after pregnant woman shot in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A woman is fighting for her life in a Philadelphia hospital after a gunman shot her in the back, killing her unborn baby.

It happened around 10 p.m. Monday in the city's West Oak Lane section.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says the 32-year-old woman, who was four months pregnant, was found sitting in a vehicle with a bullet wound in her lower back. Police rushed her to Einstein Medical Center, where the unborn baby was pronounced dead.

She's in critical condition.

Small says a 46-year-old man believed to be woman's boyfriend and the father of the unborn baby was shot in both legs. He's in stable condition.

Small says witnesses heard an argument before the shooting and saw two people flee from the scene.

Investigators don't have any suspects.
