Vigil held to remember 17-year-old struck, killed by Camden County police vehicle

CAMDEN, N.J. (FOX 29) - Loved ones gathered Friday to remember 17-year-old Nerreada Robles. The senior at Woodrow Wilson High School was struck and killed by a Camden County police vehicle around 10 on Wednesday night while she was walking across the street.

Jennifer Lopez, her best friend, says Nerreada was on the way to come to her house.

"I said no, Narreada, it's late, and she said I'll be fine, I will be there. I said OK be careful," Lopez says. "I waited by the window for her and she never came."

Lopez says they heard the crash but did not hear police sirens

"We had plans, we were going to graduate together and go to prom together, now I can't even do that with my best friend."

The Camden County Prosecutors Office, who is handling the investigation, says the officer was responding to a call at the time of the crash and did activate the vehicle's emergency lights.

The office would not say if they activated their emergency sirens.

County officials say they connected Nerreada's family to a federal Medicaid program that will cover all of the funeral costs, which is scheduled for next weekend.

A spokeswoman for Woodrow Wilson High School says staff is actively working with students to determine the best tribute for her at their graduation ceremony in June.
