Pederson Will Be Eagles Coach

PHILADELPHIA- WTXF - Doug Pederson, a former player and assistant coach for the team, is the Eagles' next head coach, NFL sources confirmed to FOX 29's Howard Eskin. Pederson succeeds Chip Kelly, who was fired with one game left in the 2015 season.

The team has not yet officially announced the hire, as the Chiefs are currently active in the NFL playoffs.

Pederson, 47, comes to the Eagles from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was offensive coordinator under former Eagles coach Andy Reid. Pederson was also a backup quarterback for the Eagles in 1999, and after his retirement as a player he joined the team's coaching staff.

Pederson is the 23 rd coach in Eagles history and the fourth coach hired during Jeffrey Lurie's ownership of the team, following Ray Rhodes, Reid and Kelly.

The hiring of Pederson follows a process that included interviews with such candidates as former Giants coach Tom Coughlin, Eagles offense coordinator Pat Shurmur, Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley, Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, and Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

Pederson's only previous head coaching experience came with Calvary Baptist Academy, a private high school in Shreveport, Louisiana. Pederson coached the school for 4 seasons, taking them to the Louisiana state playoffs all 4 years.
