Reports: Phillies land All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto in deal with Miami Marlins

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto from the Miami Marlins, pending medical checks.

In exchange, Philadelphia will send top pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, catcher Jorge Alfaro and right-handed pitcher Will Stewrt to Miami. According to ESPN.com's Jeff Passan, the Phillies will also send an international bonus slot to the Marlins.

Realmuto is coming off a strong season in which he posted a .277/.340/.484 slash line, with a career high 21 home runs and an .825 OPS. The 27-year-old finished the year tied for the 10th highest WAR among National League players. His offensive prowess earned him Silver Slugger award at the end of the season.

Philadelphia will have Realmuto under team control for the next two seasons.

The Phillies will surrender 20-year-old pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, who ranks 13th on Baseball America's 2019 Top 100 Prospects list. The right-hander was injured for most of the 2018 season with elbow inflamation, but his fastball is said to live in the 100 MPH range. Sanchez is expected to be ready for spring training.

Jorge Alfaro, who played 105 games with the Phillies in 2018, will also head to south beach. Alfaro was part of the Phillies return from the Texas Rangers for Cole Hammels in 2015. Last season, the 25-year-old posted a .731 OPS and was among the league's best defensive catchers.

Even with Realmuto joining the roster, the Phillies still have the roster flexibility and finances available to sign either Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.
