The shots appear to have come from somewhere off the grounds of Wynbrooke Elementary Theme School, authorities said.

The students, whose injuries are not life-threatening, were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital to be treated or picked up by their parents.

DeKalb County Police are assisting with the investigation.

The school district said there will be additional security at the school Friday as a precaution.
